It has headquarters of the National Trust and the English Heritage National Monument Record Centre. This town has the office of the Nationwide Building Society and a Honda car industrial plant.

Governance:

In 1974, the local council was established as the Borough of Thamesdown. It is out of the parts of Swindon Borough and Highworth Rural District. The borough industrialised a unitary authority on 1 April 1997, following an appraisal by the Local Government Command for England. The town is therefore no longer under the sponsorships of Wiltshire Council.

Swindon has a nautical weather type, like all of the British Isles, with moderately mild winters and comparatively cool summers considering its latitude. The nearest official weather station is RAF Lyneham, about 10 miles west south-west of Swindon town centre. The elevation of weather station was 145 meters so it is cooler all over the year.
