Understand PRINCE2® methods, themes, processes, and principles

If you are looking to excel in the field of project management or just starting your career in it, then PRINCE2® certifications can assist you. PRINCE2® was developed by the UK's Office of Government Commerce, but it is now used across the world due to its practicality, scalability, and flexibility. PRINCE2® is a widely recognised project management method and is endorsed as the industry standard. AXELOS has announced an update to PRINCE2® and the last update was in 2009. This is the major update to the PRINCE2® methods and it happened because many partners agreed that update to PRINCE2® is necessary. PRINCE2® 2017 helps to plan and control projects of any type and size, ensuring that such can be delivered successfully. PRINCE2® certifications have become a prerequisite for many project management related jobs, as they demonstrate an individual's ability to successfully manage a project from beginning to end.

The majority of people do PRINCE2® certification just to get the certificate but in actual they don’t know how to apply the concepts of PRINCE2® in real-time. The existing training courses are also more focused on clearing the exam. To adopt PRINCE2® in projects, excellent knowledge of PRINCE2® concepts is required. This PRINCE2® 2017 update lays emphasis on how to tailor PRINCE2® to projects.

To start using PRINCE2® in projects, AXELOS has come up with this update which includes:

  • Much more information about tailoring PRINCE2® in projects has been added.
  • The syllabus has been updated that include agile and tailoring now.
  • Exams structure has been updated.

What's included

  Course Overview

PRINCE2® is a process-based project management methodology. It provides practical step by step guidance, clear processes, and templates to manage projects effectively. It covers a wide range of topics such as programme management, project management, and portfolio management. PRINCE2® is truly a standard approach that can be adapted to any project irrespective of organisation type, size, and culture.

Pentagon Training’s PRINCE2® 2017 Foundation and Practitioner course cover all aspects of the Foundation and Practitioner levels. According to the PRINCE2® 2017 update, this course lay more emphasis on tailoring PRINCE2® methodology with Projects.

There are two levels of qualification in this course:

PRINCE2® Foundation – This is the introductory PRINCE2® certification, and it acts as a prerequisite to the PRINCE2® Practitioner training course. In PRINCE2® Foundation 2017 learn the core principles and terminology of PRINCE2®. After achieving this certification, delegates are able to work as project management team members and make use of the PRINCE2® approach within organisation environments.

PRINCE2® Practitioner – This is the second PRINCE2® certification level. This section of the training course provides delegates with a deeper insight into PRINCE2® methodology before applying it to projects. This level helps delegates to tailor PRINCE2® 2017 concepts with projects. After achieving this certification, delegates can start working on real projects using such methodology.

Examination

Delegates will need to take a Foundation and Practitioner exam in order to acquire this combined certification.

For the PRINCE2® Foundation examination, basic project management knowledge is required, and there are no eligibility criteria. Delegates will get the PRINCE2® Foundation certification if they pass the exam.  According to the PRINCE2® 2017 update, the Configuration Management topic has been removed. Questions of the exam are more focused on tailoring PRINCE2® in projects. The syllabus covers all the seven PRINCE2® themes, and negative questions are also removed. A number of list questions have also been reduced.

Exam structure of PRINCE2® Foundation Certification is:

  • Multiple choice formats
  • Number of questions per paper is 60
  • Reasoning questions are excluded
  • Duration of this exam is 60 minutes
  • Required pass percentage is 55% or 33/60

PRINCE2® Practitioner is the second exam delegates will need to sit. In this exam, more focus is laid on the practical application of PRINCE2® in the project environment. Reasoning and multiple assertion questions have been excluded. The format of this Practitioner exam is as follows:

  • Focuses on all parts of the Prince2® methodology
  • Objective testing
  • There are 68 questions in exam including fewer questions related to management products
  • Time Duration : Two-and-a-half hours

About Chichester

Chichester is a well-known cathedral city located in West Sussex, in South-East England. It is the one and only city situated in West Sussex and is its county town. It had a long history as a settlement from Roman times and was significant in Anglo-Saxon times. With a 12th-century cathedral, it is the seat of a bishopric and is home to some of the oldest building and churches of Great Britain.

Roman period

During Roman Invasion in 43 AD, the area around Chichester played a significant role as confirmed by military storage structure evidence. City centre lies on a foundation of Romano-British city of Noviomagus Reginorum, which is a capital of Civitas Reginoru.

The Roman road of Stane Street, linking this city with London, begins from the east gate, while the road from Chichester to Silchester road begins from the north gate. The city’s plan is taken from the Romans: the North, South, East and West shopping streets originates from the central market.

Governance

Regarding local government in England, Chichester is a civil parish, has got city’s status, and is one of seven so designated, the others being Ely,  Ripon,  Hereford, Truro,  Salisbury, and Wells. The Council of city consists of 24 elected members serving four wards– North, South, East, and West.

Main Tourist Attractions:

Chichester Cathedral, was founded in the 11th century, is completely dedicated to the Holy Trinity and contains a shrine to Saint Richard of Chichester. Its spire was built by the weak local stone, collapsed and so, it was rebuilt in the 19th century. In the south passageway of the cathedral, a panel made up of glass on the floor gives you a view of the remains of a Roman mosaic pavement.
